The rail vehicle division of Knorr-Bremse in Spain is formed by the following companies:

• Merak, Sistemas Integrados de Climatización, S.A.

Sociedad Española de Frenos is the leading company in the Spanish market, and with Spanish influence, for the supply of brake and automatic access IFE door systems for all rail vehicle segments, as well as WESTINGHOUSE platform doors. It is also the Knorr-Bremse Group’s world competence and production centre for oil lubricated alternative compressors.

Merak is the Competence Centre of the Group, involved in the design, manufacture and marketing of climate control systems intended exclusively for rail vehicles throughout the whole world, having its own subsidiaries in North America and China. It is a company that uses Spanish technology, being an international leader in its industry, and one which has fitted out very high speed trains in Spain, France, Korea, China and soon Russia ( a system that will have to work at extreme ambient temperatures of -50º C to +50º C), including the most important underground railways in the world (all the Spanish ones, New York, Washington, Chicago, Río, Sao Paulo, Paris, Lisbon, Hong Kong, Singapore, Shanghai, Guangzhou, etc.), trams and all types of rail vehicles.
