Sociedad Española de Frenos, Calefacción y Señales, S.A started its relationship with the Knorr-Bremse group in 1920 through the signing of a license agreement, and this relationship has gradually developed over the years with Knorr-Bremse becoming a majority shareholder in S.E. de Frenos in 1970. The company, with its current headquarters in Getafe, is the market leader in Spain for the manufacture and sale of brake equipment, electronic systems and derailment detection systems for rail vehicles, automatic access IFE door systems as well as WESTINGHOUSE platform doors. Included in its list of references are most of the passenger and freight transport vehicles owned by the Spanish Railway Authorities, its customers being the main international rail vehicle manufacturers such as Alstom, Vossloh, Talgo, CAF, Siemens, Bombardier and AnsaldoBreda, as well as national operators like Renfe, FEVE, Metro de Madrid, Metro Bilbao, Metro de Barcelona, Euskotren, Metro Valencia, FGV, FGC, etc.
Quality and Environment in S. E. de Frenos:
S.E. de Frenos has a Management System known as REX Rail Excellence that is based on integrating Quality, Environmental and Occupational Risk Prevention requirements, essentially underpinned by an approach geared towards processes and based on the principles of the EFQM model. This management environment allows it to be certified in the following internationally recognised standards:
- ISO 9001:2008, ISO 14001:2009
- OHSAS 18001:2007
- IRIS International Railway Industry Standard review 02 –specifically for the railway industry-
The productive environment is organised in accordance with the guidelines of the KPS Knorr Production System, which outline the main guidelines for Industrial Organisation, Lean manufacturing, 5S, Poka Yoke, FMEA and Process Standardization, amongst others, and which allow products to be manufactured in a planned and safe way, encouraging quality once again and the philosophy of zero defects.
